New Decorating Item: Deco Links

New Life Community Church of Aurora

Balloons by Absolute Value is always looking for fresh new decorating items for our customers. Once again we were the first in the State of Colorado to introduce a new, cool, and different type of balloon to you, Deco Links.

New Life Community Church of Aurora was looking for something that would fit their new sermon series titled “Unleashed”. It was to be used in their concluding or last in the series of interesting sermons.

New Life used chain links in black and green for all their promotional material. When they called me they were thinking on the lines of using 260q’s, the balloons, twisters use to make funny animals and hats to form their chain links.

I just saw a promotional piece from one of my suppliers that fit their needs perfectly. It was the Deco Links mylar balloon. It came in the exact colors they were using for all of their other promotional material.

Next was an exchange of emails with pictures of the Deco Links in black and green. We calculated the number of links required and the rest is history. A great looking swag, that was easy to hang. Eye candy for sure.

Deco links come in a wide array of colors: black, blue, gold, green, magenta, purple, red, silver and white.

The Deco Links are easy to use, can be either air or Helium filled and present a powerful “WOW” statement. A great use would be an arch or in this case a swag. Think how you can use this new balloon in your decor.

Special Person: Jessica Jorgensen

Roxsbourgh Community Village Park

Have you every met a person in your life that touched your very soul? I did last month and her name is Jessica Jorgensen.

Now Jessica is not a famous celebrity , a sports figure, Priest, Rabbi, Minister, state or national political figure. She is however one of the coolest ladies I have ever met.

You might be asking yourself what makes this lady so special. Jessica is a mother, a wife, a good neighbor and part of a pretty awesome family. She is a lady that you would see in your local store and not give a second thought. Oops that’s not true…….she is a pretty good looking lady.

The funny thing how we got to meet. She happen to call a friendly competitor of mine looking for a balloon release. My competitor, Amy happened to be busy the time Jessica needed the balloons to be released.

Amy called me and asked if I was busy and I told her I would be happy to talk with her prospective client. Amy called Jessica and Jessica called me the next day. By the way Amy and I will refer clients to each other if we are busy.

Jessica explained that she needed a lot of balloons released for a dedication of park equipment. She told me the date and time she needed the balloons, I said that was “no problem”…. then the waterfall of tears began flowing on her end of the phone.

Over the years I have seen smiles, heard laugher, giggles, chuckles but I have never heard a person cry as loud as Jessica did when I said “yes, we can do the balloon release”.

After calming her down with my repeated dumb jokes at rapid fire, she explained why the balloon release was so important to her.

Jessica and Monty, her husband, created a beautiful son named Ryker. Ryker died suddenly and unexpectedly from a strange virus that happened to get in to Ryker’s blood stream.

Ironically we all are exposed to the same virus, but not in our blood stream.

We all take the lost of a loved one differently, but the passing of Ryker brought out the great passion and compassion Jessica always had…… An Aura if you will surrounds her.

There is no real good time to die and parents should never bury their children but Jessica and Monty decided to remember Ryker in a unique way.

Donate a piece of playground equipment in their local community park. A place the family spent many hours. But donating a piece of equipment wasn’t as easy as Jessica thought.

Lots of red tape had to be cut through…believe it or not ……this was the first time a family dedicated playground equipment in their neighborhood.

Jessica, Monty and her sister Liberty were not to be discouraged. Family and friends help make this dream a reality.

I knew this could be a tear jerker event for me. It helped a little that I had to be a mountain goat climbing up and down a very step hill to deliver the balloons. The burning in my thighs relieved the tears from my eyes. Funny but true.

While taking a breather I watched this wonderful women meet and greet friends, neighbors and family. The turnout was outstanding. Each person received that special hug, you know the kind I am talking about…….one filled with love.

I knew that I was in the presents of greatness….. Thanks Jessica for letting me a part of this event.

Ps. I want to share with you why balloons were so important to this ceremony….. Jessica wrote me this….

“Why balloons are so special to us.. it was the first time we’d ever heard baby Ryker giggle. We were in Babies R Us and a balloon drifted into my husband’s head and he swatted it away and out squeaked the first giggle he ever had. Ryker Kincaid Jorgensen ……… Absolutely loved balloons !!!”

Some day folks I hope you all have a chance to meet Jessica……a very special lady…..

Idea of the Month: Easter Bunny Sculpture

                  Bunny Sculpture

Easter is a couple weeks away and it reminds me of good times as a kid and a parent. The Easter Bunny delivered all sorts of candies and of course we had to have an Easter egg hunt for our family.

Dying hard boiled eggs and creating the new Easter Egg was so cool. Isn’t it funny how coloring or painting an ordinary white egg can make it an Easter Egg. A true family event for sure. Even my old man got caught up into coloring a special egg to find.

Easter is also very special for Balloons by Absolute Value, because the Easter Bunny was one of our first balloon sculptures that we ever created.

Contacted by a nearby hotel to created an eye catching balloon sculpture to bring attention to their Easter Brunch. The sculpture was to be fun, whimsical, long lasting and eye candy for sure.

We built our Easter Bunny balloon sculpture and it generated more excitement and buzz then the hotel anticipated. Balloons by Absolute Value continue to create our Easter Bunny balloon sculpture for nine more years until they tore the hotel down.

Question of the week: What is your favorite Easter Candy? Mine hands down our Peeps…..any shape or color.

Coming Event: Mitzvah Mania

Balloons by Absolute Value – “Mad, Spy vs Spy” theme

The place to be for Mitzvah Parents for nine years has been Mitzvah Mania, the largest showcase of it’s kind.

This year, the 10th anniversary, the producers of the show added Wedding vendors to the original concept. Their mission was to better serve the entire Colorado Jewish Community.

Expanding to more lifestyles of the Jewish lifestyle, including weddings, newborn naming and of course Bar and Bat Mitzvah’s.

There are plenty of reasons to attend, but I think the most important one is all the vendors who participate are experienced in providing services for Bar & Bat Mitzvah’s.

This event is free of charge to you the consumer.

The Lighter Side

April first is a day I truly love. It started when I was a pup and would watch my family pull April Fools Jokes on each other.

My old man would go to great lengths to fool my mom planning the perfect practical joke. My mom on the other hand would play something very simple on my dad. It was great to watch the one ups man ship they would do each year.

I once worked for one of my best friends “The Wonka”, he would rarely ever answer his phone, rather letting his secretary take the messages for him.

Knowing this I would pretend each year to be someone else and leave a phone number for him to return my call. My favorite was to be Mr Baer or Mr Lyon and then leaving the telephone number to the Denver Zoo.

His secretary would bring back the messages and he would return the call. Can still hear him yell from his office after making the call, “Charlie, that was not funny”. Everyone in the office knew that I got him. We still laugh at that some 30 years later.

So I am interested in your April Fools Jokes that you have perfected. Email me your best April Fool joke or gag.
